Therapist Consultation Services for New Therapists

Building Confidence and Professional identity

Graduate school teaches many important things, but it often leaves new therapists entering practice with questions that are difficult to answer in a classroom setting. How do you navigate ethical decision making when the answer is not immediately obvious? How do you build a private practice that reflects your values? How do you advocate for yourself within a clinic? How do you develop confidence in your work without needing to pretend to know everything? How do you find a niche that feels genuine rather than forced? These are some of the common inquiries I receive from therapists who are new to the profession.

This service is not clinical supervision. Instead, it provides a supportive space for consultation, reflection, and professional identity consultation for psychotherapists in training, qualifying therapists, and those in their first year of practice.

A Thoughtful Approach to Practice

From my experience as a therapist, effective practice often revolves around engaging in ethical decision making rather than merely finding a right answer. It typically involves learning how to think carefully, ethically, and responsibly about complex situations.

My approach to consultation is deeply rooted in curiosity. Together, we can explore questions related to private practice, professional identity, ethical decision making, documentation, boundaries, marketing, finding a niche, navigating clinic relationships, and developing confidence in your own clinical voice. Additionally, I can help review your online presence to identify any gaps, ethical concerns with advertising language, and ways to create a recognizable professional identity.

As a Registered Psychotherapist in independent practice, I am currently completing a three-year postgraduate diploma in Existential Analysis and Logotherapy. My work reflects a strong commitment to ethical practice, fully aligned with the CRPO's standards of practice, professional obligations, and ethical requirements.

I believe in supporting therapists to cultivate their unique voices rather than becoming replicas of one another. The goal is to help you think more clearly about your own practice and develop confidence in your approach.

Building a Practice That Fits

Many newer therapists often feel pressure to have everything figured out right away. They worry about whether they are doing enough, knowing enough, or presenting themselves appropriately.

In my experience, becoming a therapist is a journey that takes time to develop your own style, interests, and personal understanding of what meaningful practice entails. Whether you have questions about opening a private practice, working within an agency or group practice, adhering to professional standards, responding to ethical concerns, or finding a direction that feels authentic, consultation can provide the support you need to navigate these challenges alongside another therapist.

Practical Information and Booking Details

Consultation sessions are available virtually and are billed at my regular rate of $150 per hour. This can be prorated for 30-minute sessions if desired.

Consultations may be booked individually, or the cost may be shared among multiple therapists. While the fee remains the same regardless of the number of participants, it's crucial to remember that the time available for any single question, concern, or area of interest will naturally be divided among those attending.

You are welcome to arrive with questions and use the consultation hour however you wish. However, I strongly encourage you to email me any questions, topics, concerns, or areas of interest at least 72 hours before our scheduled meeting whenever possible. This allows me time to review relevant standards, regulations, resources, or other materials and come prepared to support your specific needs, particularly when discussing more complex issues related to private practice, ethical decision making, or professional development.

It is important to clarify that these consultations are not intended for clinical supervision. I do not provide direction regarding specific clients, treatment planning, crisis management, risk assessment, clinical interventions, modality selection, or methods for conducting psychotherapy with individual clients. Instead, consultation focuses on professional development, ethical practice, standards of practice, private practice issues, and the broader realities of working as a psychotherapist.

If you are uncertain whether your question falls within the scope of consultation, please feel free to contact me before booking.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Consultation is offered to other registered psychotherapists to maintain a shared understanding of the same professional standards, legislation, and ethical framework.

Because regulatory standards differ across professional colleges and designations, I do not provide consultation on ethical questions or clinical practice issues to therapists who are not registered with the CRPO. This policy reflects a practical boundary based on differences in governing standards and scope, not a judgment on the value of other professional backgrounds.

I am able to assist non-CRPO practitioners (social workers, counsellors, non-licensed therapists) in relation to private practice development and professional identity consultation, as long as the consultation does not involve clinical guidance, ethical decision-making in psychotherapy, or advice related to standards of practice.
